How to Care for Silver and Gold-Plated Jewellery

Plated jewellery rewards a little care. Most of the Cold Edges collection is finished in rhodium-plated silver or 18k gold plating — finishes that stay bright for years when looked after. Here's how to keep your pieces at their best.

Keep them dry

Water, perfume, lotion and sweat are the main causes of wear on any plated finish. The simple rule: jewellery on last, off first. Put your earrings on after fragrance and skincare, and take them off before showering, swimming or exercising.

Clean gently

Wipe pieces with a soft, dry or very slightly damp cloth after wear to remove oils. Avoid silver dips and abrasive polishes — these are made for solid silver and will strip a plated finish. For stone-set designs like our onyx earrings, avoid soaking and simply wipe around the stone.

Store them right

Air and humidity cause tarnish, so store pieces in a dry, airtight place — a pouch or a lined box like the one your Cold Edges order arrives in. Keeping pairs separate stops them scratching each other.

Rotate your pieces

Wearing the same pair every single day speeds up wear. Building a small rotation — an everyday petite pair, a statement pair, something with a stone — keeps each one looking newer for longer.

Looked after well, your jewellery becomes the kind you keep reaching for. Browse the full collection to add to yours.
